Befarmaeed Sham is the Persian version of the popular reality UK TV series Come Dine with Me. Befarmaeed Sham recently visited Vancouver in 2018 to record a thirteen series (52 episodes) for their popular reality TV show. Each series contains four episodes where four complete strangers take turns hosting a dinner party. At the end of the day, points are awarded by their dinner guests and the host with the most points wins a cash prize of $1,000 Canadian Dollars. The show does add an element of comedy while inviting you into the homes of these brave contestants who put their cooking and hosting skills on display for the entire world to judge. You might even catch some dancing and bloopers too!

You don’t need to understand Farsi to know what is going as the general concept of what is happening is quick to pick up on. The show usually starts with a recap of the previous episode followed by dinner guests reading the menu of the dinner party they are about to attend. During this time, the camera follows around the dinner host as he/she prepares a three-course meal for the expected guests. These are typically Persian dishes being created so don’t be surprised if you see a lot of eggplant being used! The host also chooses a theme for the dinner party meaning the guests need to dress accordingly. This is all in good fun and themes can get pretty wild! At the end of the day, dinner guests provide a review of the evening and give the host a score. It is a point scaled system where guests can give a maximum of ten points to the host.

The contestants and narration are all spoken in Farsi, the official Persian language. I have yet to find videos with English subtitles but will happily post an update if they ever become available.
