Tirgan Festival 2019 Hits The Bullseye at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park on Sunday July 14th, 2019
The 2019 Tirgan Festival, hosted by the Tricity Iranian Cultural Society (TCICS), was a huge success with lots of dancing, entertainment and family fun had by all. Held beside the beautiful LaFarge Lake at Coquitlam’s Town Centre Park, local Persian festivals and events like this one are growing larger each year. It was a wonderful opportunity for families from all backgrounds and various communities to come on down and enjoy an afternoon of celebrations together.
The annual Tirgan Festival is an ancient tradition celebrating Iranian Arts and Culture. The celebration is dedicated to Tishtrya, an archangel who appeared in the sky to generate thunder and lightning for much needed rain. Legend says that Arash the Archer was a man chosen to settle a land dispute between the leaders of the lands Iran and Turan. Arash was to loose his arrow, on the 13th day of Tir, and where the arrow landed, would lie the border between the two kingdoms. Turan had suffered from the lack of rain, and Iran rejoiced at the settlement of the borders, then rain poured onto the two countries and there was peace between them.
